Sericia Lespediza...

I have read many things on this and other forums and 1 thing that troubles me is how often I hear that GLY will not kill it. I am going to show you 3 photos of this devil of a plant here on my property. I sprayed this area that had mature SL over a month ago and the plant was in bloom at the time of spraying so it was as hardy as it is ever going to be. You can see the area right next to it on either side I did not spray. I mixed the GLY at 2 quarts per 15 gallon of water because that is what I spray an acre at. You can see some other plants returning after the spray but not the SL...there is hope...

I'd be interested to see the same area next summer. The SL I have killed with roundup always just comes back from seed. Granted I have probably kept a lot from going to seed by nuking with RU. I seem to get a residual effect with pastureguard, the next year its all foxtail not a broadleaf to be found. I have also killed quite a bit with Escort XP but the window in the growing season is much shorter. RU is definitely more cost effective. Best of luck the SL is nasty but I would keep it over the autumn olive any day!

Oh I am sure it will probably come back from seed in this ditch but mostly I am addressing the folks who say GLY will just yellow it a little and then it just recovers...

I have the same luck as you Okie. I sprayed some four years ago, an isolsated patch on a hillside, along my main road. I see the spot every time I drive by, no return. I've done it many times in my CRP too with the same results. Sure, there is a never ending supply of seed, but I have no problem killing it dead with Gly.

You know I've always heard that sericia isn't good for anything. But some dang bird must be eating it or something because it keeps getting spread around.
