Built In Range Finder Sights

Here in Florida the FWC, with Guidance from the Bow Hunters, has Approved the use of Sights that include a built in Range Finder.

I thought I would ask the DHF what their thoughts were on this new form of Hunting Sight. As for me I had mixed feelings when filling out the questionnaire. I always used one to place Fixed Marks in my mind on Trees and Stumps of whatever after climbing in to a tree, but never while actually aiming at an animal.

Does it take away the Bow Hunting Aspect? Many do not like the use of Crossbows- especially those that use a scope- and that has been discussed in depth on here and does not really need to be re-hashed. But if it starts with a Bow Sight at what point does it Cross Over to Crossbow Scopes or Rifle Scopes, if it has not already.

So what are your thoughts? Are they just another Advancement in Archery or is it going to far?

I’m for whatever is legal within reason. If it results in less wounding, I’m for it. If you are into record books, (I’m not), then P&Y has that handled. I would have absolutely no use for it personally.

Surprised these haven't been more available. I'm a less is more type hunter but don't have a problem with the sight if one chooses to use it. I've watched youtubes on it and doesn't seem to be a good choice for thick areas. I love technology and embrace it in some things and in others things I reject it. Like Drycreek, just not for me. And helping some people recover deer, they need all the help they can get. Plus 800-1000$ ???? Wow I'm out.
Field and Stream has an interesting article discussing available technology and while its not illegal, is it really ethical. And another side article, I think from subscriber, that talks, tongue in cheek, of typical comments made of drama between wheel shooters and shoulder arrow shooters discussions with a final comment made by the trad group which I particularly enjoyed. Technology moves on and there ain't no stopping it whether we like it or not.

There was a clear line in the Vote they sent out that said It was NOT a Laser Pointer type of sight. I didn't even know they had that type of thing.

My last Bow had a simple Pin sight with a level that did help with consistent shots. I gave it to my SIL and what he does now with it is up to him.

Well I'm just going to go out and shoot my old school recurve , stay true to the cause, and fight technology. Oh wait, it has a fast flight string, carbon arrows, and hell raiser broad heads with inserts, all while hunting from a $200+ tree stand over my $300 food plot !! Guess I can't escape. Well, whatever.

$300 food plot sounds cheap to me or very small, say 1/4 acre or less.

Maybe that fescue has your brain messed up somehow.

I'll stay with fixed sight but wouldn't blame anyone for using technology if they wanted or needed too.

Too many things going on for me. Not too mention they can be more expensive than a bow.
