introduction

New guy here but have been lurking for some time and like what I have seen. Lots of good information and Civil folks.66 years old and retired but have a hobby job.Part of a group that has hunted together for 30 some years.Part owner Ohio property and have access to Pa.property owned by family members.Ashtabula Ohio and Crawford Pa,total around 650 acres. Can walk across a gravel road from state to state.Have seen lots of changes over this time.More deer and better bucks may be due to selective harvest or antler restrictions on Pa. Side.Grouse are gone.Turkey population has rebounded. More coyotes and fishers with a couple of bears and occasionally a bobcat.Trying to manage all critters in general.I may be of of the few that like the new Pa.opening gun season on Saturday.
Then I get another opening day on Monday in Ohio. Will check back often.

Thanks for input. Over the next couple of weeks I will try provide changes as our group has gone from guys being mid 20 year old to average age early to mid 60 years old.Years ago most arrived on Friday for Monday opener.Three days spent cutting splitting fire wood,Checkin out tree stands and checking out rifles.Today still arrive on Friday but you better know where your stand is and your weapon ready to go.No one in the woods after Thanksgiving day.Shooting range is closed.Opening days was sit on stand until 9 am back for 2 morning drives, lunch another drive and go out for evening hunt.Today, all day sit if you can take the weather. No more deer drives until last day of season.Next report will cover how harvests and quality of deer has changed. We are sort of old school and our ideas are not for all.My number 1 personal grip is state of Pa.allowing spotting of deer.

Welcome Borderjumper, looking forward to reading about what is happening in your area. I don't care for the allowing of spotting deer either. It makes it too easy for poachers to zero in on us or whomever has the biggest deer in a particular year.

Thanks Chainsaw.I know that spotting is a long time pa.tradition.I would like to see the state allow spotting only from February 1 thru August 30. Lots of people enjoy it, but I hear too many rifle shots at 11 pm.We have also found numerous crossbow bolts in the spring. I am going to post in general forum to see how many states allow spotting.
