Walmart Chestnuts

For those of you in Oklahoma. Walmart in Yukon on Garth Brooks has Dunstan Chestnuts marked 50% off. I got 2 today for $30. There are probably 15-20 left. Some are in bad shape but the ones I got were doing fine.

Lucky you,they only delivered to 1 walmart in Kansas and it's 3 hours from me

im i NC two stores one a hr. away they delivered this week to hot in the 90's now

hay on the Dunstan chestnut trees when is there drop time sept. or oct.

They{chestnut hills} said a couple weeks ago when I called that I could set up to get pallet of trees delivered to me next year then I could divide between a bunch close by or I can order smaller trees

They say Sept.- Oct but i don't have any that are of age to start producing yet. I'm in 7a so hopefully Oct for bow but either way they are going to feed deer. And the neighboring land doesn't have any.

Yeah that might be the best way to do it. I just keep reading about guys on here getting great deals on the trees as Walmart starts closing them out, and then they take proper care of them and the next year they do fine. Thats what i'm hoping for. I'm going to go back next weekend and see if I can get them even cheaper.

Wisconsin Walmarts just received their chestnut deliveries last night. I went to the Appleton store first thing this morning. The 7 gallon trees were already gone, but had about 20 of the 3 gallons left. They looked pretty rough. Lots of black in the leaves and dry soil. I passed on them.

Drove to the Oshkosh store and they hadn't sold any yet. Much better looking trees. Really wanted to buy some 7 gallons, but they were 9-10 feet tall and my truck bed is 6 feet. Lol so I grabbed the best looking 4 of the 3 gallons.

They just dropped the price to $5.00 on the 3 gal Dunstans at Wal Mart in Yukon. Okla. I picked up 4 today. They have about 12 left. So I have 6 tree's that cost me a total of $50.00 The first 2 were $15. It's funny the redbuds and cherrys and everything else the leaves have completely dryed up at the wal mart garden center / grave yard, but the DCN's although not perfect are ok. Proof that they dont mind a well drained dry soil.

Congratulations on the $5 trees. All you have to do is be patient and realize that if they aren't any left when they get cheap then it wasn't meant to be. Go buy a couple more $5 trees or you will be kicking yourself later.

For anybody thinking about buying a cheap chestnut that doesn't look so good, Chestnut Hills posted this the other day on their Facebook page. One of their shipments to Illinois and Wisconsin was delayed and the trees were in bad shape when they finally arrived. Chestnut Hills stated that this will revitalize the trees. I guess it would work on any chestnut trees that are heat or water stressed after sitting in a parking lot.

We are advising customers to water their stressed trees with this solution once a week for 4-6 weeks:

Soak 1 multi B vitamin & 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt overnight in 1 gallon of water. Apply one gallon per tree, once a week with this solution for 4-6 weeks. Don't water them more than once a week with this solution to avoid salt buildup. Water your trees with regular water as needed as well.

For nutritional deficiencies/ green up recipe:
Mix the following dry ingredients well in a 5 gallon bucket and distribute about a 1/2 cup on two sides of mature trees (4 yr olds ) at the drip line.

Less for younger trees with less caliper.
1/2 the bucket - Milorganite
1 cup - Ironite ( dry, granular )
1/2 cup - Manganese sulfate
1 cup - Epsom Salts

Thats great info Fish, thanks. I already watered them with Miracid this time but I'll do that recipe next time. I've been alternating between Miracid and WormPower.
