Hogs are going down soon!

I suggest a mega pigroast-invite all of us. We'll bring the cold drinks, sorry, nothing stronger than coca cola for me.
Seriously, I've never seen anything like this before, could you take video once you close the gate?

Amazing, I was watching 22 or more pigs in the trap the first night. Still a couple that wouldn't commit so I didn't drop on them. Going to hold off until i can drop on all of them.

Crap. 22 the first night. With that many, there may always be one or two outside the fence.

Last night was a repeat of Sat, had 27 in the trap. Three or four other groups in & out...last group was 5 pigs at 6:30 this morning. We still had at least one big boar that didn't enter. I have a licensed transporter on call for tonight, if they cooperate I may drop on them. I'll post a pic in a sec.

Not all 27 are in this screenshot, they move in and out quick.

A long night...Ended up being 22 in the trap. Before we got to the trap another sounder showed up trying to get in the trap, we bumped them going in. The guys that came to load out had their work cut out for them They finally got them loaded up, I got home around 1 AM. Would have been easier to shoot them in the trap.

I'll have some addl video in a day or two.

This thread is amazing. Almost makes me wish that I had hogs!

I'm glad you said ALMOST !:)

Something for you guys to think about if you run corn feeders and have a hog problem. Put a round pen around your feeder, 8/10 hog panels with T posts at each junction and in the middle of each panel. Deer will get used to it in 2/3 weeks and hogs won't tarry. Before I did this, hogs would lay around my feeders for hours, now what few come in take a quick run around the feeder to get what little corn is outside and leave. Well, most of them do. Sometimes one or two stay, but they're going to that big hog waller in the sky !:D

These two have been showing up nightly since last Tue. I thought it was two boars, turned out to be a boar & sow, I'm guessing in heat. Dropped & terminated them last night. The other sounders have moved onto the COE land to the north.

Be careful what you almost wish for, hogs are a scourge.
I don't know how hogs compare, but bears, being first cousins to hogs, are also a scourge. Do hogs tear down your apple trees? Destroy six acres of standing corn? Hunt and eat fawns all spring? Tear most feeders apart? Charge humans if they are feeling nasty? Swipe your deer off the meat pole? Destroy beehives? Refuse to run away when you chase them in your underwear at 3 am? If your hunting area has no coyotes, hogs, bears, or poachers you have got a good spot.

I sense some aggravation, I'm right there with you! I think hogs have most of them boxes checked, OK not the chasing in underwear...and I don't have any fruit trees other than natives, persimmon & plum, other than scarfing down fallen fruit hogs don't seem to bother them.

3 more down, dropped the gates on them this morning on my way to work. I took the hams, back strap and loins off the smallest one... looked to be around 100lbs. Thought I'd give it a try, lots of differing opinions on wild pig meat, some hate it and some like it better than store bought pork.

Would be interested to hear how it tastes. I've never tried it myself.

So I kept the pork in an ice chest for three days, drained the water off daily. Sat I trimmed it up and sliced a piece off the ham and four thin slices of back strap, just fried in a bit of olive oil. I was pleasantly surprised, other than being a bit tough the taste was excellent. I saved two pieces of back strap for the wife, she liked it as well. She'll be doing a pulled pork ham this week, should make it tender.. I'll be doing a wet cure ham & back strap next if the pulled pork turns out as good as I think it will.

Bears are absolutely worse than hogs...we have both on our lease and bears are the most destructive thing I have ever encountered...

I have bears on my lease and hogs at my house. Hogs will rub trees and kill them - bears will rip the fruit from them. Tie. Both will destroy corn feeders. Tie. Both will destroy six acres of corn - hogs might destroy 100 acres. Hogs are credited with far more crop damage than bears across the US. Hogs win. I would bet hogs kill far more dogs when hunting them than do bears. Hogs win. Both will displace deer. Hogs will root up your ground - making it almost impossible to use, bush hog, till, or plant. That is the worst thing in my experience. My hogs cause much more damage than my bears.
