Forest Stewardship program through the NRCS

I just signed our 80 acres up for the program and the NRCS agent has toured the property and made some recommendations. There are some nice benefits to the program if we are accepted. It might be a good idea to check out the program. It's new and getting accepted will never be easier than right now.

Do you have a link to more info?

Sorry I don't have a link, I think the IDNR sent me a email with the information about the program. I'm sure you can contact your local NRCS office. I called and asked the manager about it and he set up an appointment and was very helpful. He told me since it's a new program it's easier to get accepted now. Sounded like a win win situation to me. edited to add... I just typed in NRCS forest stewardship program and the search came right up.

I hadn't heard from my NRCS agent for a few weeks so I gave him a call today. He said my application had been approved but the contract hadn't been sent yet. He looks for it to show up in a couple weeks. Hopefully it will have cooled of a bit by then and I can get to work.

Just signed the contract yesterday, I've got some work ahead of me but it should all pay off in the long run. There is one requirement that I'm not pleased with that involves honeysuckle removal is the area that we call the safe zone. Hopefully once the honeysuckle is gone other native plants will take over and offer the deer cover and browse.
