Box blind build

Figured I'd show another box blind build. Give more options for anyone looking to build one.

I wanted a bow friendly blind so I elected to go with tall narrow windows and cut the front corners of the blind for more visibility and shot angles.

If I built another one tomorrow, I would have framed the floor square and then just built the walls with the corners cut. Having the floor frame square would have kept the elevator brackets on the correct angles for the legs to be angled correctly.

You can't tell in the picture, but I used rubber roofing so that I didn't need to angle the roof for water runoff.

The next pic shows how I made the deck. I stole this idea from the shadowhunter or one of those commercial blinds.

But basically, its 3 2x4s that are joist hangered to the floor joist with a 3 ft cantilever. I was skeptical of this at first, but it feels plenty strong and I love having the deck to stand on to enter the blind.

And just a pic of the ladder. Its screwed to the deck as well which added a lot of stability to the ladder.

Nice looking stand. What are you using for your windows? I am building one and have ordered some windows from Deer View. I hope they are as good as they look on their website. Like the porch/deck, may have to steal that idea.

I just used 1/8" tinted plexiglass and framed it. They are 12x48". If I did it again I would use 1/4" and then it would be strong enough to not need framed

very nice design - how high off the ground is your floor?

About 12ft. I started with 16ft 4x4s but I couldn't tilt the stand up because of the land contour so we just just kept cutting them shorter until I could hold the blind upright with the loader forks.

12 ft is plenty - I like the windows and the cantilevered platform - In The north, we'd have opened the door in - because snow and ice can build up in front of the door - especially if it gets packed down. Hope you get a deer out of it with bow!!!

Can you show pictures of the finished inside? I am really interested in making something like this with the long windows and angled corners.

Nice pics! And nice shooting house!

How big a tractor did you have to lift it up in the air? Where did you buy those brackets and how much did they cost?

Thanks for posting!

Anything in particular you are looking for? I can take pics the next time I'm down at the farm. Other than painting it black, it looks pretty much like the very first pic just with plywood covering the studs (maybe a couple of more studs as well)

Tractor is a Kubota M7040 but Kubota's have the weakest loader on the market so pretty much any other tractor could lift it :)

The brackets are about $75, I think I got those from Home Depot but Sportsman Warehouse, Cabelas, Gander Mountain all carry them.

Loader on my Kubota will certainly lift enough to put my tractor on its nose. I lift heavier stuff than a guy ever ought to try and I worry about the front tires because it's a huge strain on that axle...

You should have a very heavy counterweight on the 3ph as well as having your rear tires filled with liquid. I have my Kubota L4330 tires filled, concrete, lead and steel rear wheel weights (500 lbs total) and I added a 510 lbs weight block to the rear of my 675 lb box blade.

Your M7040 loader at 67 hp has almost the exact same load at full height as my L4330 at 40 hp, just over 2300 lbs.

Thanks for the answer on those brackets!

Thanks,

Loaders are rated for the weight of the tractor with attachments...My box blade weighs 800 and so does my brushhog. The brushhog puts the weight further back so more leverage...Having said that you can put too much weight on that front axle and tires. Mine has never failed to lift the most possible weight the front of the tractor can handle...

If that 7040 has a weak loader you might take it in and have the pressure checked because I lifted the shooting houses my cousins built (heavy duty) and set them on the platform that was already concreted in the ground to 12 feet and placed them...one thing my loader isn't is weak...spec for it is not as much as the 7040 or 4330 but the tractor weighs quite a bit less as well...

Not sure how my box blind thread has gotten to this point. My loader has no issues picking up a box blind, that was just a general statement about the loader. My loader is maxed out picking up a 250 gallon tote full of water from the back of my truck. I had to drag my no till JD 71 planter off a trailer because my loader wouldn't lift it and the planter was put on the trailer by a 40 HP JD tractor.
