Kansas Deer Season?

I noticed Muzzleloader and Archery season began the 12th of this month - are any of our Kansas neighbors hunting and if so what are you seeing?

Not hunting yet. I've had a bum foot for over a week now, doves are flying, work is busy, and I don't get to excited about deer until both my kids have shot one and the rut has started. Burned out a lot of good ground when I was younger in the early season, then had so/so November hunts. I'm a very low impact/disturbance type hunter now and that doesn't include hunting early (of course if I had a monster patterned I would make an exception).

Who wants to hunt in all this rain we've been getting anyway? ;)

Been seeing some descent bucks and bachelor groups showing up at night on the cameras, but nothing really in terms of daylight movement, still too early and too warm with a full moon

Here in Oklahoma our 9 day Muzzleloader season is Late October and is my absolutely favorite time to hunt. I just figured with that kind of firepower you guys in Kansas could have a monster patterned still in a summer pattern and it would be a slam dunk...

I would love to hunt in early to mid September here...

I see what you did there... :(

You are right sometimes it can be really good. But alot of the time the bucks have broke out of their groups and are hard to even see unless you get a cold front.Youth season can be really good as the bucks are still grouped sometimes.Do you have planter fasciis

No. I ran something through my shoe and most of the way through my foot (I did an interesting dance). 30 minutes and a pair of plyers later I had it out, but my foot swelled up pretty good and there was considerable pain. This is after a week of meds and very little improvement...

That looks like a hell of an infection

Thanks guys. It is getting better. Hope I can stay off of it enough today to give me a head start for the week.

Take care of that foot. Hope it heals quickly. I took a tumble yesterday down near my garden. We had gotten just a bit of rain and I kept on working. I stepped on a muddy, wet 4x4 and LOST IT. Landed on two elbows and the knee that was repaired last January. I am on diet of Alieve for couple of days.

Wow that looks painful. Hope you heal soon. May want to touch base w/ Dr again. Seems pretty slow healing. Puncture wounds can be very slow healing and very dangerous with infections. I'm thinking you have debris in there. I have a buddy that wrecked while racing dirt bikes causeing a puncture wound on his arm. Didn't look all that bad but he got to spend 5 days of his vacation in hospital.

Sorry I know that sucks and I hope it heals up quickly but my first thought was the right foot has been eating fruits and veggies and the left foot has been on ice cream and donuts. I love me some ice cream and donuts.

lakengulf, I hope you are better from your fall. A hard landing can sure leave ya gimpy for a while and you sure don't want to set that knee back!

I spent the weekend resting my foot (the wife yelled at me every time I tried to do something, that felt weird) and the swelling went down a lot. Went to work today and by tonight it's swelled back up some. Lots of pain again too. It will be two weeks on Wednesday since stepping on it, will run out of antibiotics tomorrow, thinking of calling he Doc again... Might try the diet thing, it's worth a shot! I'll eat cookies and milk tonight before bed instead of icecream. Should also try to run a few extra miles on the left foot (this makes since due to the fact that I haven't used this damn foot much in the last two weeks). Great ideas Btaylor!

Very hot and very dry here at Dodge. There has been some high moisture irrigated corn harvested along with some dry land corn. The harvest is starting in some areas, but most corn is still in the field. Lots and lots of super dry land milo this year. I pulled memory sticks from some of the trail cameras today and not a single picture of a decent buck. Earlier there were a couple of decent bucks at night. I have a feeling that the early muzzle loader season will end here without me putting the cross hairs on a buck.

Not sure what it was, but if metal, I hope you have had a tetanus shot in the last few years. If not you may want to go get one

I had an old rusty roofing nail go through my shoe and into my foot a couple of weeks ago while mowing the lawn.

Best wishes for quick recovery

It has been my experience that our bucks tend to fall off of their summer pattern right before muzzleloader season begins. They seem to be nocturnal according to my cameras. :(
