I put this in the Native Habitat thread because this is in some native grassland I’ve been working on. While I was on the tractor my heeler and lab made a new friend. Before I walked over to make this, they were all laying in the grass watching me on the tractor.

Finally added a cell camera to the mix, got a picture of tiny twins this week.

I afraid this would not be the peaceful setting of our lab encountering a fawn, UNLESS the fawn didn't run! Louie cannot resist chasing anything that runs from him, hence the underground fence around our yard.

They found two more today. Played around while I sprayed. My dogs think they are new dogs to play with. LOL

We have had a bear and an eagle watching our thick cover for new fawns this month. So far the mothers are winning. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Saw two different piles of coyote scat today containing one of these - half of a fawn hoof. I have seen 30 to 40 does in the last two weeks and seen two sets of twin fawns - and nothing else. And one of those sets of twins where I found this hoof

Those fawns don’t regularly travel with the dies until they get a couple weeks on ‘em. Just now starting to see them on camera.

That said, I’d still kill every coyote I saw!

Time to kill some coyotes.
I need to. I dont have anywhere that I think I could actually see a coyote to call it up. Mostly woods - 20 acres of old pasture that is now waist to head high in grass. I have trapped a few in the winter - but I dont have enough trapping skill to catch them in the spring. A dirt hole set wont work because the fireants immediately takeover the bait. I need to work on a pee post flat set.
