The drivers side is definitely 20+, that’s a great looking buck.

It’s hard to score a deer from trail cam photos but that’s a 125”+ frame. Excellent eye guards.

Yea, I don't typically ask people to score my bucks, but here's some different angles for you. I figured he was 120-125ish myself.

I was able to cut in the new plot on the northern 20 last week, right at the base of the ridge. I didn't get all of the wagon wheel spokes cut out, but I might let that be a future enhancement. It's currently a hub with just 2 spokes. The larger spoke is going SW toward the bump stand, and the smaller one is going NE toward the ridge stand. I'll be planting two pear trees along the northern edge as well.

This morning I expanded the creek plot some. I still have some hack n squirt to do on some of the larger trees and I definitely need to do some maintenance on the existing section as it was fairly neglected last season.

I got the two chinese chestnuts (3 gal size) in the ground in front of the pasture stand, right on the outer edges of one of the shooting lanes. That should make for a nice stopping point in a couple years.

Hope your chestnuts do well. I have 8 to 10 that showed some promise last year and should bear this year. Also I look forward to seeing what shows up on some pears my grandson and I grafted last spring.
I was hoping to graft a few mode but alas I was helping push a dead golf cart onto a trailer and totally popped my Achilles tendon.

Only 3 feet. I had some fencing from an area in my backyard where we had blocked off a bunch of Leyland Cypress trees. The dogs would always get covered in sap so i used the fencing to keep them out. I cut them all down last summer and there was no way I was gonna get rid of perfectly good tree caging fence, even if it is a little short.

I’d double it up. I use 5’ on fruit trees and they still get “trimmed” a little. You might have trouble establishing a central leader if they decide to browse your trees.

That's a good call weekender. I will look at doing that when I go out to plant the plums and pears in a couple weeks, but so far I've had pretty good succcess with 4 foot fences and trees. They seem to leave all the fenced stuff alone with the exception of a red osier dogwood bush that is starting to grow through the wire holes. They nip the exposed branches so I probably need to go ahead and remove that one before it gets too entangled.

My brother in law gave me his old riding mower this week to take to the land, so that will be nice not having to haul mine out every time i need to cut the grass. I figured I'd plant a few fruit trees while i was out there. 2 plums in the new plot and 2 pears in the horseshoe plot. Since I trailered the mower I didn't have room for the atv, so I had to carry both pear trees and the shovel in by hand. I didn't have time to make a second trip to the truck and back to get the cage supplies. I'll cage them next time I'm out. Far in the background of the second pic is the double ladder stand overlooking the eastern edge of the plot which will have good visibility to the pears.

The weather is starting to warm up so it will soon be time to seed, lime, and mow the plots as well as the screens I am planning to add for this year.

Back in 2020, I tried to create a screen on the old road bed using Egyptian Wheat but didn't have any success. Last year i hinge cut some additional trees along the edge, but they just didn't provide enough cover once the leaves dropped, so I'm giving it another go this year using some WI Conceal. I sprayed, raked, and seeded on both sides of the road leaving a small strip in the middle that I can just mow at the end of the summer. Hopefully I will end up with a nice wall to screen my movements for the upcoming season.

Not a whole lot new to report and very few pics. I've mainly been clearing the trails from fallen debris, which seems like a never ending battle these days. More times than not, there are new branches or fallen trees across the trails with each trip out to the property. I did manage to swap out a single stand for a double down on the river. This gives me and my daughter a better option for winds out of the N/NE. I will probably move the single up along the creek and wait to hunt it late in the season (i.e. December), as it will be more centralized in the property and much closer to bedding/travel areas.

My road screening is fairly thin as I think the critters got to it when it was still young growth, so I'll probably supplement with some Egyptian wheat soon.
