Lighter recoil spring: Ruger 10/22

Does anyone know if I can get a lighter spring for the recoil in my Ruger? I shoot subsonics through it, and it's too tight to eject the shells. I took it apart and cleaned it, and will try again this weekend, but does such a thing exist, and where would a guy get it?
 
Ruger pistol or rifle ? Well, I suppose it makes no difference does it ?:) Search the internet with your googler and if it’s out there, you’ll find it. Maybe. Try Voltzquartzen (sp), they make lots of aftermarket stuff for Rugers. Good luck !
 
Well, I did a little googling of my own since I was a little bored. The general concensus seems to be to shop around for different brands of standard velocity .22s since they are mostly subsonic also. Real subsonics are made to be used with a suppressor (mostly) and if you don’t have one on the gun, lots of the gas that would normally work the action goes out the end of the barrel. That’s my theory anyway, since I run a suppressor on an AR pistol and had to put an adjustable gas block on it to keep it from gassing back through the action and into my face.

It's been since last summer I tried working on this. I took the gun completely apart last night and cleaned it. The barrel had some schitt in it, otherwise it was pretty clean. Last summer I was shooting some CCI subsonics that ran 710 FPS. My gun nut buddy told me to try some Eley subsonics which run 1040 FPS. I'll try them this weekend after cleaning it and see if the stuff cycles better.

I also had grouping issues last summer, so I'm hoping some cleaning and faster ammo might tighten things up.
 
I haven't tried shooting yet this weekend. I had some chores I needed to tend to first. Those outta the way now, I can turn to this tomorrow after a few more chores. I picked up a brick of Eley 38 grain subsonics last year to try. They run hotter than the CCI subsonics, so i'll test to see if they're both the same noise level, or if at least the other is quiet enough.

I couldn't find shot trajectory for this round, so I turned to the ShootersCalculator.com to make a chart. It looks like I can sight this thing in for out to 70 yard shots. I'm going to try zeroing it at 60, which should make me under and inch high from 20-60 and an inch low at 70.

Well I got everything set up today. Marked out a range, put out yardage markers, got a new target board put together, and now I've got a wind delay. I never have wind in the summer. The one day I'm not working, the humidity is down and the breeze is excellent, but not good for holding a pattern on a 38 grain bullet out to 60 yards.
 
Nailed it. 60 yards.

Nice looking rifle Mark, I used to have one a lot like it, but mine was blue and had the spiraled bull barrel and tan laminated stock. It was a pretty good shooter, but my Henry .22 mag is a great shooter and I prefer it for medium to long range and my Nylon 77 or 66 for iron sighted work. Probably not a more popular .22 rifle in America though than the Ruger 10-22 and for good reason.
In my opinion, if John Moses Browning was a firearms genius, then Bill Ruger Sr. was a marketing genius. Several firearms bear this out, his first, the Ruger Standard .22 pistol, the single actions that he brought back to life, and the 10-22.

You mentioning a nylon 66 brought back old boyhood memories. Around our farm a 22 rifle was utilized for small and smaller game, such as starlings, english sparrows, rats, squirrels, groundhogs etc, which called for precision accuracy. A Remington nylon 66 came and quickly went again, not fitting the bill at all. A Winchester 190 semiauto was also very inaccurate. A Marlin model 25 with the microgroove barrel, and a German made Anschutz were the two most accurate .22 rifles on the farm.
 
Some guns just fit, and a Nylon 66 fits me. I used to break dirt clods thrown in the air, just like shooting a shotgun. Probably can’t do it now with my worn out eyes, but my Nylon 77 wears a red dot sight and the snakes in my pond suffer from it !;)
