Spreader for Polaris Ranger Crew

Does anyone have a spreader they use with the larger Polaris Ranger Crew? I’m looking for something that would fit in the back 2” hitch but be long enough to run control from front. Thanks!

Thanks Swamp. I will give that a try. Do you use it fir lime, fertilizer, seed, etc?

Not fertilizer. I am sure it would work, but I dont want the fertilizer in it or on my ranger. I have a fifteen yr old 3 pt tractor spreader I reserve for fertilizer. The moultrie spreader is really good for small seed, also.

Swamp, did you have to buy the 2” conversion bracket for this as well as the hand control or did they come with the spreader?

The metal two inch receiver hitch bracket had to be purchased separately. The electronic hand control came with the unit. There are two seeders offered - one manual and one electronic. The electronic comes with the necessary components except for the metal receiver hitch bracket.

if I had the time, i would build a mount that slides in the holes along the sides of the back bed. I know a guy who did this. 2x8 flat across the bed and another 2x8 bolted to it upright (with strengthening brackets) to mount seeder to. You dont need the receiver hitch bracket if you do that. The advantage is, it puts the spreader up high above the weeds. If you are doing a throw and mow, the receiver hitch bracket has the spreader down low and it doesnt do well at all spreading through standing weeds. Bed mount puts it up above most of the seeds and it does a much better spreading job.

Can you get a pic of the 2x8 setup?
And how do you open/close the gate with one mounted to the back of a Ranger? I see they offer an electric gate now — does it modulate or is it only closed, wide open?

it has a contoller that plugs into the cigarette lighter plug on the dash and it has an on/off on the controller and six different electronic seed gate opening selections that you can change while you are traveling.

I dont have a picture of the bed mount set up. But it was mounted using a flat 2x8 - maybe 2x10 - that spanned the bed - overhung a few inches both sides. A ranger has holes along the side of the bed and that board spanned two sets of those holes on each side. He had drilled four holes through the board to match two holes on each side. Screwed one inch black pipe flanges on the top of each board over each hole and then Screwed a piece of 1” black pipe into the flange from the bottom side of the board through the holes he had drilled. Not sure how long the 1” pipe was - but it went to the bottom of the holes. He then screwed another 2x8 to the back edge of the flat board at a 90 degree angle. He braced that for stability. That board was for mounting the spreader. He said it just set in the holes on the ranger and had never fallen out. Not sure I wouldnt try to strap it if you had rough ground. The actually spreader mechanism on the seeder was probably about 4 ft off the ground.

I have only seeded wheat and millet with mine - and for both of those, it worked great - but both of these are required in some quantity - at least 25 lbs per acre or a lot more. I can not vouch how it would do with a small seeded clover that only required four or five lbs per acre.

They make “plugs”, for want of a better word, that fit in those holes on a Ranger bed and they work just like the drain plug on a boat. There’s room to weld to them and you could make a bar to go across the back in ten minutes. I made a double shotgun rack for mine when I used to shoot sporting clays. Mounted two Kohler gun cases on it and it worked really well.
