2021 trapping journal

Good luck! I ran a small line earlier this week. Bunch of coons and a few yotes. I want to learn tanning, I would like to keep a few of the prettier ones on the basement wall.

The kids filmed my patented cat release technique...

I want to see that same technique with a 35lb tom.;):D I am thinking we could all learn something from a video with that content. LOL! Bobcats are always fun to release. Cable choke sticks work alright, but there is a fine line between a released cat and a dead cat! I refer to releasing cats as playing with a tornado that has claws. A mature cat can shred a pair of Wrangler jeans in short order, best if you are not wearing them at the time.

Not sure I've even seen a 35lb cat. Balls factor may change a bit in that situation! Had a cat that I caught by hand get a hold of me once. Very much like a tornado with claws. I bleed a lot! Turkey, are you saying you take your pants off to release a cat? You are the man!

No, just saying if you are going to let them rip into your pants, it WOULD be a lot more comfortable in THAT situation if your pants were actually not on! :D I have had them latch onto pants that were still actually on me....

Why y’all release em?

Just don't feel the need to kill them. Last I checked (which hasn't been in quite a while to be honest) cat pelts from around here weren't worth much, and even though I think we have a healthy population of them I don't see them being as hard on ground nesting birds as coons are. I don't know other than I just don't feel like killing them. Haven't even shot one with a bow for a long time as I like to watch them work an area.

Here you go catscratch.....you can do these two, but I'm staying in the truck...:)

I actually think cats are more effective turkey and fawn predators than coyotes. We dont have as many cats as yotes - but the cats are definitely increasing

You are a braver man than me! Just curious...why the release?

Just don't have a desire to kill them. Quit shooting them while bowhunting long ago and don't target them while trapping, but do catch a couple a yr it seems. Just watch them do their thing and enjoy the show.

Here's one I stalked a summer ago in my plots. Filmed him with my phone. He didn't appreciate the humor in my standing up and stepping towards him.
