2020 Live from the Stand

I hunted with a buddy this evening on a bean field they were cutting on his property. We were about 400 yards apart and he had this mature buck come by and he decided to pass him, only cause he has one buck tag left. By the time the buck got to me it was about 10 minutes too late, but I would not have let him go. I could just see a large silhouette walking across the field between me and the truck and combine sitting to the left in the second pic.

I hunted over on the in-laws farm this afternoon. Usually I only hunt there on special occasions, today’s occasion was 25-30 mph winds! I got on the downwind side of a big oak ridge and had a ball. I saw 7 different bucks including a nice seven that would have tempted me had he gotten a little closer. Didn’t see much for does, but I can hardly blame them the way the bucks were patrolling.

My brother-in-law has a pic of him from late summer. CA5A2D7B-9D87-43B0-91C5-45B420BED993.jpeg

Bitter sweet as the recovery did not go as planned. I found him the next day after I had given up. The shot was steep, 8 yards and 20’ + to my feet. Enter liver exit paunch. Not the way I wanted it to go but he’s a beautiful mountain buck non the less and I’m happy to have closure.

A nice mature 8 point buck. People can talk about inches and gross score, but this is real deer hunting. Find a good area, hunt that scrape, have a lot of savvy and patience, connect on the target buck!

Wind finally died, overcast and hot! In deep woods overlooking 2 brand new scrapes. Forgot reading glasses so this is a challenge to see or type. Lol

No telling what I would type if I weren’t wearing my specs. The upside, I might not could find the post button:)

Well...I sat there for an 1.5 hours and the wind was so shifty I bugged out to keep from spooking deer...I ended up back at the south plot and saw a small buck and a doe. Tomorrow begins our general firearms season!

My heart is racing. Just had a buck in the 140 range pass by at 35 yards. Thought it was my target when I first saw him. I need to calm down.

In the nose out the mouth . I was helping Dad gut the deer in the field (coyotes love guts) and a beautiful long tined buck trotted through the middle of the field. At first glance, I thought it was the one I was after. Jogged to a cedar tree for a rest and some cover and confirmed it was not. I love that feeling though.
