Remington assesses get bought

I for one am pleased about the Ruger Marlin acquisition. I’ve had the itch to return to a lever gun some day....

There are some good things happening here. Palmetto State Armory bought AAC also. The only draw back I see here is that PSA will announce them in stock and 2 seconds later, be out. Lol.

Seeing some of these iconic brands like Remington, Iver Johnson, Parker-Hale, Winchester Repeating Arms, Ralston Purina, General Foods, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Woolworths, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Eastern Airlines, TWA, Pan Am, Pennsy Railroad, Chicklets, Amoco, Gulf, Lionel, Elgin watch, Bell Telephone, Westinghouse etc. disappear is Bittersweet. Poor management is often the downfall, but usually a company making better products takes their place. Change is the only constant in this world, and doesn't always fell good, but in 2020 the fact that we can expect change in the future is starting to look pretty attractive.

I saw that Ruger aquired Marlin this morning on another forum. I hope their quality control is better than on their single action revolvers. As much as I love Ruger SAs, they do have to re-lick their calves often.

I read today that it is official, the court accepted Ruger’s acquisition of Marlin for $30,000,000 if I remember correctly. Let’s hope for the best, Marlin was an iconic firearms company, hopefully it will be again.

I'll put a plug in for Ruger. I've heard about some single action issues, but I have a single six, super redhawk, sp101, model 77mkii, and a hawkeye, and my opinion is that they are some of the best firearms manufacturers in that price range. Generally speaking, Rugers aren't the slimmest and lightest firearms, but are built strong and rugged and will withstand some very rough usage. And both bolt actions are long range tack drivers as well, which I can't say for some of the Remington rifles that I've had over the years. And Remington ammo was at the bottom of my list, not always dependable to fire.

I owned one Ruger Model 77, in .280 Remington, and it was a good gun. My son coveted it, so I gave it to him. I still have a Ruger No.1 in 25-06 and with my handloads it is a true tack driver. Worth probably twice as much as I gave for it, but it’s not for sale. My best friend covets it, so when I kick out, if he’s still kicking, he gets it. I personally own several Ruger SA revolvers, and no trouble with any of them, but most of mine are 70s or earlier vintage. It’s the newer ones that I was thinking of.

I have owned a Ruger 77 in .280 with a varmint barrel for 40 plus years. No changes just shoot it. It hits well out to 450 yards. The rifle is probably better than that but that is about my limit. I always thought it was a crazy thing that I had to pay $99 for the scope but only $79 for the rifle.
