IMG_7995.JPG Well after a 3 year wait we leave tomorrow for a 6 day Alberta bow hunt for moose with 5 buddies. Can't wait to see some old friends and my new the guides. This is a great camp. Sold out through '19

My guide ran a camera on my section. Had 3 awesome bulls for the area hitting the lick during daytime hours. This is the best one. I'm not going to be picky - first legal bull I'm shooting

I wish you a great hunt. Moose hunting is big time fun, and it sounds like you have a good spot. Below is one I got in Saskatchewan just to get your blood pressure up.WP_20161113_002.jpg

Wow. What an animal. I have no aspirations even close. Hope to just get one of those 10 yard bow shots you see with moose and see if I have the composure to make a good shot

Im sure there's bigger ones out there than his pictures. The good outfitters never show you a picture of their biggest animal, otherwise it's almost impossible for them to make their hunters happy without getting them that exact animal. And the one in the picture is very close to mine. Good luck.

We are in a high numbers, high success area. The normal bull harvested is 20" but they have 60% type success with bow. Mid 40's shot every year but not to be expected. The numbers this outfitter puts up is why it's hard to get in. Virtually everyone is repeat. The first time I went it was 90 F and record high temps. We had a tough hunt but the sign we saw and the fun we had screamed try again. We'll see...

Well I have a experience that will haunt me

We got set yesterday morning on a big lake. Right away there was a cow that was bawling. The stalk was on

Dropped down to lake edge and set up and called. Nothing

Moved closer. Bumped a 20-30"er at 70 yards. Guide said get set up. He called. Nothing

As he was walking toward me he stopped and motioned to me to come quietly. He asked if I wanted to shoot a small bull. I said yes - never shot a moose before and he estimated it at 1000lb

The moose was bedded at 80 yards. Down I went and tried closing the distance. Got within 65-70 and had no shot with branches in the way. The guide called. The moose moved, I got up and quickly closed 10 yards. He was angling my way. Had two small shooting lanes. Ranged him as he came through the first -48 yards. Drew and got a good release. Great thunk and the moose ran 30 yards, stopped and I saw the arrow buried behind the shoulder.

Waited 30 min and began the track. Poor blood but good color. Went about 100 yards and the arrow broke and feel out. Found this blood sprayed chest high in the birch. Got about 24" penetration.

The moose got into the thickest nastiest Boggy swamp I've ever been in. No blood visible in the moss

Looked for about 4 hours gridding off that swamp. No moose

Got close this morning. 10 yards and I would have had a shot

The grunt this bull did cut right through you. I'll never forget it

Wind swirled and got busted

Found 3 fresh rut holes. Plan to take a climber over one tonight

No, that's what's cool about this outfitter. As long as you take an ethical shot he understands at times this happens

He said most of the time moose are big babies and die easy but he's also had bulls make it 200 yards when center punched

Got close again tonight. Got down and bumped the bull at 80 yards. He was coming, just ran out of daylight

Well we got skunked.

Great outfitter, amount of animals awesome, close calls everyday but we just couldn't get it done. Had an absolute blast. Elk don't do much for me, moose do. Once you see a break 8-9' up in a tree I got hooked

Gonna try and get a group together for 2020. One more time

I enjoyed your hunt Bullwinkle. Now for future planning you had some very close encounters; what might you do different on the next trip?

Go the second week. This place is filthy with moose. Only issue was rut intensity - one of the guides told us most moose are shot second season. First is more of a a scouting mission

I am also going to look for a fixed broadhead that flies good and is bigger than 1" cutting diameter. I will always wonder if my broadhead hurt me. I've got 4 left and two bow hunts for hogs this fall - plan to do some testing!!

A+ camp otherwise. That's why they are sold out through '19
